Lime Plasters and Mortars
Anyone involved in the conservation and restoration of historic buildings knows that lime was found to be one of the most important materials used during construction of most of our iconic buildings and monuments.
Unlike modern cement-based products, lime-based materials let the building ‘breathe’ by allowing water to enter and leave walls freely, as outside weather conditions vary. Lime plasters and mortars used on historic buildings allow for some movement without cracking, which is essential in buildings which often do not have conventional foundations and damp proof course.
Here at Stone Edge Conservation we are huge advocates of these traditional products and methods, essential for the correct repair and conservation of historical buildings and structures. We have an experienced team dedicated solely to lime, including pointing, rendering and mortar repairs.
