Pippbrook House

Pippbrook House, a distinguished Grade II* listed building, was originally conceived as a private residence by the renowned architect George Gilbert Scott—best known for iconic landmarks such as the Albert Memorial and St Pancras Station in London. Acquired by Dorking Council in 1929, the historic structure was repurposed into offices under the newly formed Mole Valley District Council.

SECL was entrusted with the meticulous restoration of the building’s external roofing, a project that involved dismantling and reconstructing chimney stacks, conservation-led repairs to structural timbers under expert guidance, replacement of lead box gutters, and extensive refurbishment of timber skylights, windows, and external rainwater systems.

Due to the historical significance of the site, special attention was given to safeguarding the invaluable hand-painted ceilings—masterpieces designed by George Gilbert Scott himself. This project reflects a commitment to preserving architectural heritage while ensuring the longevity of Pippbrook House for generations to come.
