Fortnum & Mason, London
Stone Edge Conservation were the preferred contractor to complete the recent external refurbishment of the famous Piccadilly store Fortnum & Mason.
Fortnum & Mason is a department store situated in central London at 181 Piccadilly, where it was established in 1707 by William Fortnum and Hugh Mason.
The store is an iconic landmark in Piccadilly and we felt privileged to have contributed to it’s conservation for future generations to enjoy.
The scaffold was adorned with a special wrap designed by London artist, Rory Dobner. Rory’s designs concealed the façades during the important restoration works.
The old roof tiles were stripped so the structural timbers could be checked and new green glazed tiles fitted. The rotten windows on levels 5 & 6 were removed and replaced with modern aluminium replicas.
All elevations were cleaned using a combination of the Doff & JOS systems. New lead was installed to cornices and window heads and liquid plastic was used to waterproof the gutters and front canopy. All work went on whilst this beautiful store remained fully open to the public.
