Audley Retirement Village, Runnymede
The former Brunel University Runnymede campus has a long and colourful history with the site dating back to the 16th century.
The Victorian Gothic building has been transformed from student accommodation to a luxury retirement community. The history of the building was respected as the imposing Pillar and President’s Halls were restored for use as a communal space, with apartments above.
Stone Edge Conservation acted as a specialist sub-contractor for Balfour Beatty to carry out façade cleaning and masonry repairs. As an approved contractor we were able to comply with the principal contractor’s high standards of health and safety and achieve Constructionline Gold accreditation.
The listed retained façades were cleaned using a combination of DOFF and JOS/TORC systems. Stone Edge Conservation then undertook a condition survey of the brick and Bath Stone elevations which were carried out by our in-house restorers and masons. Finally, the rusticated stucco render to Pillar Hall was completely removed and reformed to its original detail with appropriate lime mortars.
